Western Cabins, The Lodge at Bryce Canyon

Bryce Canyon Lodge

Bryce Canyon National Park, The USA

The lodge offers a range of accommodation, from motel-style rooms with balconies or porches, to suites and cosy, historic pine cabins, some with cathedral ceilings and gas fireplaces. All rooms are non-smoking, and TVs aren't provided in order to preserve and promote the peaceful ambience of the hotel and its environs.

Surrounded by the Ponderosa Forest, the main lodge is home to the rustic yet atmospheric dining room, serving an environmentally sustainable menu featuring regional specialities. There's also a gift shop at the lodge offering a selection of authentic Native American handicrafts, and a general store located at Sunrise Point.

The only lodge within the national park, it provides a rustic but unique experience. Service can be slow and accommodation is dark and fairly basic, but this is more than made up for by the magnificent location and allows you to truly enjoy your natural surroundings.

The lodge offers four different accommodation types, each offering a simple but comfortable space in which to rest after a day of exploring this beautiful area. Guest Studios are the entry-level option, featuring a queen size bed, en suite bathroom and a coffee maker. The more spacious Guest Suites have a bedroom with king size bed as well as a separate sitting room, where a roll-away bed can be added if required for a maximum occupancy of five guests. Both of these room categories are located on the second floor.

Sunset Point and Sunrise Point rooms are spread across two storeys and can sleep up to either three or five guests, depending on whether they have a queen or king size bed. Furnished with warm lodge-style furniture and local handicrafts, they offer an en suite bathroom, fridge, microwave, coffee maker, hair dryer and a semi-private porch or balcony. Finally, the historic Western Cabins have a gas log fireplace, exposed beams and pine walls for an authentic, cosy feel. Some have connecting doors, making them great for families or groups of friends, and each feature two queen size beds for up to four guests. Further amenities include a semi-private porch, coffee maker and en suite bathroom.

The lodge is set just a few feet from the rim of the main amphitheatre and trail heads within the national park.

Food and drink

The Lodge at Bryce Canyon offers two dining options, as well as a general store. At the main restaurant, no reservations are required and seating is on a first-come-first-served basis. It has an informal atmosphere and is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The Valhalla Pizzeria and Coffee Shop is a casual café featuring artisanal pizzas and Italian favourites, salads, appetisers, beer, wine, home-baked pastries, espresso drinks and coffee. It's open for breakfast and dinner only.

Most of the rooms are able to accommodate families of at least three, with the Western Cabins able to connect for larger groups.

Facilities and activities

The lodge has a general store and a gift shop selling Native American jewellery and art. In the evening you can attend interpretative talks held by the park rangers in the lodge's auditorium, allowing you to learn and appreciate more about the national park.
