Kichanga Lodge, Zanzibar Island, Zanzibar Archipelago
Kichanga is a simple lodge situated on the southeast corner of Zanzibar. The hotel has an enviable position set in tropical gardens above a white sandy cove backed by palm trees.
The lodge has 22 bungalows comprising four categories, 12 ocean view bungalows, six garden view bungalows, fouran view villas and one ocean view suite. All have stone walls and high thatched roofs. Inside they are pretty but basic with concrete floors, reed mats, wooden beds with mosquito nets and simple en-suite bathrooms. Each has a shady balcony, ideal for relaxing with a book and cold drink.
The main lodge is pleasant with a large open-plan lounge, bar and restaurant area high above the beach. Food is simple but fresh and tasty with plenty of fish on the menu. There is a beautiful pool with sea views, a tiny and basic 'spa' offering a variety of treatments. Mountain bikes are available to hire, as is snorkel and kayak equipment. There is a PADI dive centre a ten minute drive away.
