Hotel & Villa Auersperg
Located in a quiet, residential area of Salzburg, the Hotel & Villa Auersperg is a relaxing sanctuary that offers a secluded garden, a rooftop spa, complimentary yoga and food that focuses on all things organic.
Perched on a rock outcrop overlooking the city, the Schloss Mönchstein allows you to sleep in a room with a view over the rooftops of Salzburg. This fairy-tale hotel combines exclusivity and attentive service with fine dining and a convenient location. Though it’s painted a modern deep yellow, the hotel’s tower and medieval architecture hint of its past as a former fortress.
The expansive grounds of this sprawling estate along the banks of the Salzach River provide quiet seclusion. Despite this, it’s still a short walk away from the Old Town of Salzburg, making it a good base for exploring the city. If you don’t feel like walking to town for dinner, you can stay in and eat at the hotel’s renowned Glass Garden restaurant, or head to the Apollo Bar for a few cocktails and small bites.
The hotel offers a variety of room types and sizes, including the storybook Tower Room, which is spread over two floors aptly located in the tower of the castle, with a panoramic view out onto the city. If you need a day to relax during your travels, you can take advantage of the full spa.

With just 24 rooms, Hotel Schloss Mönchstein provides an intimate atmosphere. All the rooms feature a chandelier and are accented by the hotel’s signature dark red throughout. Large, frameless glass windows flood the rooms with natural light, and the bathrooms feature gleaming marble.
In addition to the more standard room options, you can book the Tower Room, built in the castle’s tower. There’s also an array of suites that vary from a contemporary style in the main building, to those in the castle where modern design meets classic castle architecture.
Conveniences such as air conditioning and Wi-Fi come standard in each of the rooms.
The hotel is built into the Mönchsberg rock and surrounded by peaceful woodland and framed by the Alps. The gentle walk through the parkland takes about seven minutes and guides you to a lift down to the left bank of the city below. When you get off the lift, you can walk through historical Old Town and along the city’s high walls to visit Hohensalzburg Fortress.
We love how this hotel’s location feels like you're hidden in an exclusive countryside estate, while still only being a short walk away from the Old Town of Salzburg. The staff here are attentive and sensitive, making a stay here feel special.
