Itinerary idea in detail

With international flights from a choice of airports including London, Birmingham, Manchester, Newcastle, Edinburgh and Glasgow.

  • Today you begin your journey by boarding your international outbound flight to Vienna. Welcome to Vienna. After settling in, your private guide will meet you at your hotel for a walking tour of the city’s oldest district. Take in the city’s most important sights before making your way to Schönbrunn Palace, a former summer residence of the Habsburg royal family.

  • Your private guide will meet you in your hotel lobby for a walking tour that explores the Viennese coffeehouse culture, making stops at some particularly well-known establishments while learning about notable figures who frequented them. This afternoon, get hands-on with Austrian culture as you enjoy a Viennese waltz lesson from a professional.

  • Today, indulge in some wine tasting at a family-run winery in northern Vienna. Walk through the vines and try several different varietals with the owners.

  • Join a guided tour of Vienna’s largest outdoor market, Naschmarkt, where you’ll have several tastings and an opportunity to peruse the market stalls as you learn about Viennese dishes along the way. Later this evening, don your finest clothing for an evening at the esteemed Vienna State Opera.

  • Take the train from Vienna to Salzburg. Once there, take the rest of the afternoon off to explore the city on your own or to settle into your hotel.

  • Set off with your private guide on a Mozart-themed walking tour of Salzburg. You’ll visit his birthplace, now a museum dedicated to him, as well as several other sites that were important to the composer. This evening, enjoy a classical dinner concert at Hohensalzburg Fortress, the towering medieval fort that looms over the city.

  • Meet your private driver-guide for a full-day exploration of sights that appeared in the classic film, The Sound of Music. Go to the Mirabell Gardens, where Do, Re, Mi was filmed, as well as Liesl’s gazebo from her serenade to Rolf, and the abbey where Maria had been a novice, among other stops.

  • Your private driver will transport you to Hallstatt, a lakeside village in Austria’s Salzkammergut lake region. After settling into your hotel, you’ll head out onto the lake for a private boat tour.

  • Together with your guide, set out on foot to explore Hallstatt, learning the history of the village and taking in the sights as you go.

  • This morning your hiking guide will pick you up and drive you outside of town to a nearby trail where you will enjoy a half day scenic hike.

  • Your private driver will transport you from Hallstatt to Innsbruck, stopping en route just across the German border for a visit to Hitler’s Eagle’s Nest. Here, you’ll face the juxtaposition of idyllic scenery with learning more about the grim history surrounding the site’s previous owner. Take the rest of the afternoon to explore Innsbruck at your leisure.

  • Meet your private guide in your hotel lobby and set out on a walking tour of Innsbruck’s old town, where you can visit a variety of landmarks, including the Golden Roof. Afterwards, head to the Bergisel Ski Jump, one of the sites for the 1964 Winter Olympics.

  • Ride the Nordkette cable car to the highest point at Hafelkar, where you can peruse a gift shop, eat lunch or simply enjoy the scenery, including the Stubai and Zillertal Alps. Later, spend your final evening in Austria enjoying a traditional Tyrolean folk show. The entertainers showcase local music and heritage, including shoe slapping and yodeling.

  • Today your private driver will escort you to Innsbruck airport for your onward journey home. Your return flight will arrive the same day.
