Tubu Tree Camp

Jao Concession, Botswana

Tubu Tree is a traditional-style tented camp, built on raised wooden platforms to best take advantage of the views. The comfortable lounge provides a relaxed setting in which to spend time browsing books or looking through the telescope to spot the grazing plains game. The polished bar, dining area and small curio shop are built in a charming spot under an ancient marula tree. There's also a small pool to cool off in between your activities.

Tubu Tree's sister property, Little Tubu, which has just three rooms, is located near Tubu Tree Camp, and is accessed by a raised wooden walkway, and guests of Little Tubu are able to share Tubu Tree's main pool.

Rooms

There are just a handful of spacious, well-appointed tents here, including a Family Tent and a Honeymoon Tent with a king size bed, as well as twin-bedded tents. Set among the trees along raised wooden platforms, each tent offers a high level of privacy, with en suite facilities and an outdoor shower. The tents have electronic safes, pedestal fans and tea/coffee-making facilities and are stylish in dark woods and white linens. Beds are equipped with mosquito nets and a deck outside each tent provides outdoor seating, allowing you to relax and enjoy the peace and quiet.

Location

The camp is built on the western side of Hundu Island, an area that boasts diverse vegetation ranging from dry Kalahari sandveld through to mopane and riverine forest, on the edge of permanent waterways.

Food and Drink

Dining at the camp is a sociable affair. The food is fresh and prepared on site, served buffet-style.

Families

Family accommodation is provided. Larger families can even have Little Tubu on an exclusive-use basis.

Facilities and Activities

Activities from camp include guided walks, game drives and boating when water levels are sufficiently high. Unless staying during January or February, you may also try your hand at a spot of fishing.

If you're feeling adventurous, there's a small raised hide located around 20 minutes from the camp which can be used for sleep-outs, accommodating a maximum of four people.

As with all Wilderness Safaris camps, insect repellent, shampoo and shower gel are provided in your room and bean bags are provided in the game drive vehicles, which can be used to steady your camera.

Environmental and Social Responsibility

As part of the Jao Concession, Tubu Tree Camp is involved in a project with the local community to reduce conflict regarding poaching and over fishing in the area.

Our opinion

Set in a very far-flung part of the Jao Concession, Tubu Tree is secluded and wild. The game densities are good, and the camp is ideal for those who really want to immerse themselves in the wilderness.
