Laguna Lodge, Lake Atitlan, Guatemala
Laguna Lodge is a relaxing and intimate eco resort located on the quiet but spectacular shores of Lake Atitlan. The lodge has only six suites and is constructed from natural resources by local people from the area surrounding Santa Cruz.
The rooms are spacious and decorated in Maya style with Italian bathrooms and a balcony or patio. Water is heated by solar panels.
Its isolated location, which is only accessible by boat (approximately 30 minutes from Panajachel town), really enhances the experience of staying here and its setting on the northern shores of the lake mean that it has some of the most beautiful views across the water towards the volcanoes of San Pedro, Atitlan and Toliman.
Those who are looking to combine relaxation with adventure will enjoy the range of activities offered by the hotel, from exploring the property's 100-acre nature reserve to local hikes, kayaking and swimming. There is also a sauna and hot tub on site (payable locally) for relaxation and complimentary kayaks and canoes available. A range of tours can also be booked through the lodge.
The hotel has a vegetarian restaurant serving delicious dishes using mainly organic food also sourced and grown locally. Lunch is served a la carte and dinner is a fixed 4 course menu which costs $40.
