Covo dei Saraceni

The Amalfi Coast, Italy

Perched on the rock at the foot of town, and close enough to the water that you can hear the lapping of the waves from your balcony, the Covo dei Saraceni is one of two hotels in Positano with immediate beach access.

The rooms are delightful, offering beautiful sea views. The beachfront restaurant and bar is a fantastic place to enjoy a meal and watch the world go by. You can explore the town on foot as all the main sights are a short walk away. Alternatively, lie by the rooftop swimming pool and enjoy the view.

OUR OPINION:

A reliable choice with everything you would expect from a five-star property. The service is fantastic, the rooms and views are exceptional and, as it is one of only two of its kind on the beach, it has become an institution in Positano, ideal for exploring the town.

Rooms

The rooms are in line with the quintessential Positano style, with whites and blues, prized local Vietri tiles and paintings of the picturesque hillside town decorating the walls. Because the building has been built into the rock, all rooms and suites have immediate views of the sea from either their balconies or private terraces. Some even have their own Jacuzzi hot tubs.

Location

Steps from the beach, the Covo dei Saraceni has a superb location for exploring the town or catching a ferry to Capri, Sorrento or Naples. Road access stops halfway up the hill, after which point it’s all pedestrianized. Shops and restaurants sit in this lower part of town so you avoid the steep climb after dinner. On arrival, the Covo provides a luggage collection service.

Food and drink

The Covo Restaurant serves delicious gourmet fare, expertly made with fresh, local produce. There’s also the rooftop restaurant and bar which is particularly good for a long lunch in the sun, offering views of the town and excellent seafood. The Brasserie is an annexed, rustic restaurant, set on the beach and serving simple lunches, pizzas and gelato.
