Hotel Luna Convento

Hotel Luna Convento

The Amalfi Coast, Italy

Situated just on the outskirts of Amalfi town, Hotel Luna Convento is quiet yet only a short walk from the middle of town.

Once a 12th-century monastery, many of its original features still remain today, including the central cloister and the cells, which have been transformed and expanded into sea-facing bedrooms and suites. The restaurant is housed in a beautifully grand space, with recently painted frescoes on the domed ceiling and a sunlit terrace looking over the town and out to sea.

OUR OPINION:

Although the rooms are quite simple and dated, the Hotel Luna Convento is steeped in history and charm. The cloister in the middle of the building is delightful, the views are spectacular and the swimming pool is a lovely touch.

Rooms

Rooms are simple but full of character with high, domed, frescoed ceilings which, although not original, bring the room to life. Looking out from the windows or terraces, you are greeted with views of the sea and ships sailing past. Each room is different in size with white walls, modern amenities and tiled floors, hand painted in the famous Vietri style.

Location

Just a short walk from the middle of Amalfi, the Luna Convento is well located for visiting the town’s Cloister of Paradise or dining in the main square. Ravello and Positano are under an hour away by car. You could also take a public boat from the main port which goes as far as Sorrento or Naples.

Food and drink

There are two restaurants at Hotel Luna Convento. The first has a yellow, domed ceiling which warms the rooms with light; breakfast is served here daily. The second is alfresco, serving fresh, traditional Amalfi dishes for lunch and dinner. For cooler nights, there’s a bar with arched ceilings and an imposing stone fireplace. Alternatively, sip an aperitivo in the courtyard of the cloister.

Facilities and activities

The swimming pool is located across the road and down approximately 80 steps toward the sea, where a beautiful secluded platform has been built into the rock. The pool is a good size, surrounded by sunloungers and with direct access to the sea below.
