Ryad Mabrouka offers everything you could want from a traditional Moroccan riad; carved cedar wood doors, intricate plaster works and colorful mosaics. The property has friendly French owners who will go out of their way to make your stay comfortable, and each room is individually decorated with a mixture of Moroccan and antique French paintings and furnishings. With only a handful of rooms, this property is perfect for those seeking an intimate, oasis of calm in one of the most complex historic cities in the world.
Adding to the riad's charm is its refreshing splash pool and pretty garden filled with roses and citrus trees, reached via the central courtyard with its quaint fountain and colorful mosaics. In the summer months, breakfast is served under the shade of the garden's orange trees — the perfect start to any day in this fascinating city.
This charming riad impressed us with its traditional Moroccan architecture, tranquil garden and incredible views across the old city of Fez from the roof terrace. Staying here, you never hear the sounds from the busy streets yet you're in the perfect place for exploring Fez by foot.

Rooms
Accommodation is in eight individually-decorated rooms and suites, each combining Moroccan and French designs. Spread across two floors, they offer amenities such as air conditioning and beautifully designed en suite bathrooms with mosaic decor. Most rooms feature a queen size bed, with some offering twin beds and the spacious Royal Suite and Médersa Junior Suite accommodating up to four guests. Some rooms are also able to connect to create a family suite — a rare feature for a traditional riad.
Please note that the first floor Attarine room is mezzanine-style, with the bed accessed by an extra set of stairs where the ceiling is quite low. It's therefore not recommended for the elderly or those with limited mobility.
Location
The property is a five-minute walk from one of the most important shopping streets in Fez, the Talaa Kbira, and about a ten-minute uphill walk to the Blue Gate, where there's a wide array of local restaurants and cafés that make perfect spots for people watching and soaking up the atmosphere of Fez.
Food and drink
For breakfast you'll be served a wide array of Moroccan breads, local honey and jams accompanied by fresh coffee and orange juice. A selection of dinner menus are offered in the evening, and they change every day. Food is authentic Moroccan cuisine, so you can expect some scrumptious tagines and couscous. It's always best to inform a member of staff at breakfast if you'd like to dine at the riad in the evening as the resident chef, Saida, will cook to order.
Families
Ryad Mabrouka has a couple of room options which can accommodate families. However, we'd say that this property is better suited to couples or families with slightly older children.
Facilities and activities
The property has a small but inviting swimming pool surrounded by the attractive gardens and seating areas. Up on the roof terrace, guests can relax as they take in panoramic views of the city's old town and the surrounding countryside.
Accessibility
Ryad Mabrouka has two rooms on the ground floor which are ideal for guests with mobility issues. It wouldn’t be ideal for clients in wheelchairs as the road leading up to the property is uneven and there are some steps.
Environmental and social responsibility
Ryad Mabrouka has been awarded a Green Key for its efforts in responsible tourism. It has an environmental policy in place that includes recycling, composting, using low-energy bulbs and collecting rain water, among other measures that aim to lessen the property's environmental impact.
