Brooks Lodge overlooks Brooks River in the heart of Katmai National Park and was originally built as a fishing lodge in 1950. The lodge consists of 16 modern rooms and cabins, each with private facilities. These rooms are simple, clean and comfortable and accommodate two to four people in bunk beds, with a sink, shower, lavatory and heater. The lodge has a dining area, which serves simple food in buffet style for breakfast, lunch and dinner, but meals are not included in the cost and must be paid for locally.
The main lodge affords wonderful views overlooking Naknek Lake and inside has a huge round fireplace where guests congregate at the end of the day and exchange the day's stories. Up to 50 bears live in the region of the lodge, making this one of the best grizzly bear viewing places in the world. Whilst accommodation here is far from luxurious, the experience of your stay here — the bear viewing, the scenery and the many activities — combine to make a stay here truly unforgettable.
