Located in the heart of Colombia's coffee region, near the Cocora Valley and Los Nevados National Park, Reserva del Cairo is a lovingly restored, seven-bedroom former coffee house. The home itself is over 100 years old and the refurbishments have upheld the quaint charm of the coffee region; an area that is part of the Coffee Cultural Landscape of Colombia—a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It's location make it ideal for nature lovers, bird watchers and photography enthusiasts.
There are several simply furnished yet comfortable rooms that house a maximum of 19 guests. Though they’re all roughly of the same standard, each is slightly unique and takes its name from a local bird in the indigenous Quimbaya language.
Reserva El Cairo eco hotel is a very short drive or bike ride from the town of Salento and approximately 10 km (6 miles) from Cocora Valley. The property sits on 100 private acres and the main house is only a 15-minute hike from a beautiful waterfall. 170 different bird species have been recorded in the area. The sprawling property combined with the close proximity to Salento and Cocora Valley, makes it an ideal place to explore the region from.
Food and Drink
This sustainable property grows its own produce, and hand-makes a rage of dairy products which are served at breakfast and dinner. There is a small and simple onsite restaurant open for breakfast, as well as lunch and dinner from 2:00pm to 7:30pm but they can also call you a taxi if you would prefer to go into town.
Facilities and Activities
The hotel doesn’t have much in the way of additional facilities but they can provide horse rental, birding and trekking guides, coffee plantation tours, and packed lunches for hikes around the property.
A beautifully restored coffee house situated in a wax-palm landscape just a few minutes' drive from the Cocora Valley and the quaint town of Salento. The charming owner, Margarite, speaks a little English, and is followed around by her three adorable dogs who love accompanying guests while out walking the trails.
