In our opinion, the most obvious choices for a beach break at the end of your Indonesian trip would be the islands of Bali or Lombok: places like Tembok, Lovina or Senggigi.

Our Indonesia country specialists have picked out places that will not only prove to be relaxing retreats, but where you will be spoilt for choice with the vast array of high-quality accommodation available.

Beaches in Bali

The beaches of southern Bali do not have the black sand of the other coasts of the island and they have therefore become more popular.

Our favourites are the surfing beach of Seminyak; the great value resort of Sanur, which is popular with families; and Jimbaran Bay, known for its stunning sunsets.

The east coast, on the other hand, is less developed than the south. It offers some of the best snorkelling in the area, which can be enjoyed either directly off the coast or on boat trips.

Candidasa

Candidasa

The beaches of Candidasa are volcanic, while the islands offer excellent snorkelling and diving. Candidasa is also a good base from which to explore Eastern Bali.

Jimbaran beach

Jimbaran

The tiny fishing village of Jimbaran, only two kilometres south of the airport, has one of the nicest beaches in Bali and has therefore developed to become a very pleasant little resort.

Lembongan Island, Indonesia

Lembongan Island

Lembongan island is located two hours by boat off the southeastern coast of Bali. This is a perfect retreat from the hustle bustle of Southern Bali, with white sandy beaches and unparalleled diving and snorkelling.

Lovina, Indonesia

Lovina

Located on the northwest coast of Bali, Lovina is a cluster of small fishing villages that have merged to become one. The sea is usually calm due to the coral reef off the shore making it a good option for families.

Sanur, Indonesia

Sanur

Sanur is located on the southeast coast of Bali, only 11 miles (18 km) from the airport. It's a good centre for water sports and works well as a base for exploring other areas of Bali.

Beaches in Lombok

Forested mountains and an imposing volcano form a dramatic backdrop as you relax on beautiful beaches, sip a drink by the ocean or laze by the pool.

Venturing from the shade of your palm tree, spend a day cruising and snorkelling the coral reefs around the Gili Islands.

Seeing turtles is all but guaranteed if you are there for a couple of hours.

Gili Meno, Indonesia

The Gili Islands

Situated off the northwestern coast of Lombok, the Gili Islands are famed for fantastic diving and a laid-back pace of life. The marine life is first class and is one of the best spots in Indonesia for diving.

Qunci Villas, Senggigi

Senggigi

Senggigi is Lombok's main beach resort. It is still quiet, relative to Bali, and there is not much in the way of shops or nightlife.
