Rooms
Guestrooms have excellent views right over Round Hill Bay, for the most amazing sunsets and step right onto the infinity pool. Inspired by the white-washed style of Hamptons Beach Houses, the guest rooms are bright and airy with white wooden ceilings, mahogany four poster beds and concertina doors folding onto their own private balcony. Large white tiled bathrooms have double sinks, deep soaking tubs and huge rainfall showers.
Many of the rooms are interconnecting to accommodate families and all come with Elemis Bath Products, hairdryer, free Wi-Fi, a coffee machine, iPod docking station, safe and air conditioning.
The villas suites are tucked away inside the private villas on the hillside offering panoramic views of the bay and gardens. The suites mirror the guest rooms in design with decor incorporating white washed walls, rich mahogany and sumptuous linens. The villas have air-conditioned bedrooms, en suites and a large veranda or indoor living are. With the villas having pools, guests at the villa suites can use the semi-private pool and the villa housekeepers are on hand to assist.
For larger groups, the villas can be booked in their entirety with four and six bed options available.
Location
Originally a sugarcane plantation on Lord Monson’s Round Hill Estate, which then grew coconuts and pimento, Round Hill is in a perfect situation for plenty of sunlight and beautiful fertile soils. The resort sits on the north western coast of the island, close to Montego Bay. The hotel is situated only 26 minutes’ drive from the Sangster International Airport, and three hours from the capital, Kingston.
Food and drink
Round Hill’s award winning executive chef Martin Maginley showcases local Jamaican ingredients and Caribbean flavours at their exquisite restaurant. Ingredients are grown in the onsite garden and procured from local farmers and fishermen to offer sustainable and delicious classic dishes with a modern flair. Seafood specialities include lobster bisque and short rib of beach with sauteed pole beans. There are also some delightful vegetarian options on the daily set menu.
The grill is a panoramic rooftop restaurant with sea views and a unique indoor wood-fired grill. Dishes are awarded that delicious smoked flavour from the sweet wood embers burned on the fire. Again, all produce is fresh and sourced locally as part of the taste experience.
Themed buffet dinners are served at the seaside terrace, with Caribbean curries, beach barbeques and tradition Jamaican flavours being enjoyed alongside live music.
The seaside terrace, beach and pool bars also offer a light lunch menu and a multitude of refreshments. The delicious cocktail bar provides the backdrop to watching the sunset, with soft atmospheric music and lively tropical cocktails on offer.
Families
The hotel has an extensive programme of children’s activities as well as specially designed ones for all the family. Children have the option of joining in with fun games and educational activities each day. There are children’s menus available in all restaurants and an offer hours nanny service is available for a fee.
Facilities and activities
The state-of-the-art spa is the only in the Caribbean to use Elemis in their treatments to relax and rejuvenate guests during their stay. The spa is set away from the main resort in ten acres of manicured gardens and has serene yoga classes on offer as well as delightful spa treatments and an ocean view fitness centre.
Jamaica’s warm clear waters are perfect for water activities. Complimentary snorkels are available for spotting reef fish and corals in the shallows. Couples will love a kayak out to a secluded bay and glass bottom boats offer young children an amazing chance to see what lies beneath the ocean. The water sport centre has windsurfed boards, water-skis, hobie cats and scuba diving equipment available for all guests.
For golf enthusiasts the famous 18 Tyrall Golf course in Montego Bay, is open to guests from Round Hill Villas, with complimentary transfers to and from the course. The resort also has multiple tennis courts with floodlights and new green clay. The tennis pro offers lessons to both adults and children.
Environmental and social responsibility
Growing and harvesting ingredients in their onsite organic gardens, the hotel is endeavouring to reduce their carbon footprint and increase sustainability year on year. They commit to support the gardening projects of two local primary schools and are working with Seascape Caribbean to rehabilitate and restore coral reefs by planting coral nurseries. They also have many ‘green’ initiatives at the hotel from waste water management, plastic reduction and linen reuse.
