Published: 18/05/2021   /   Updated: 21/12/2022

Tailor-made travel specialist Audley Travel has launched a lakes and mountains collection, with carefully curated one-off experiences designed for clients to immerse themselves in nature.

The collection includes new itineraries close to home featuring France, Switzerland and Ireland as well as some Audley favourites taking clients to the likes of the Southern Alps of New Zealand and Patagonia’s glaciers.

New itineraries

France & Switzerland — This eight-day sample itinerary sees clients fly into Geneva and drive to the lakeside town of Annecy to take a tour with an expert guide, taste cheeses from a celebrated local cheesemonger and explore the hills of Le Semnoz. In Chamonix, clients explore the Aiguille du Midi with a private guide learning the history of alpine adventuring while enjoying up-close views of Mont Blanc. A journey on the cog train to the ice cave at Mer de Glace is recommended. The itinerary ends in Montreux, Switzerland on the shores of Lake Geneva, with a guided tour of Lavaux to sample the region’s wines and enjoy a fondue lunch with amazing lake views.

Audley’s Alpine lakes and mountains self-drive itinerary costs from £2,710 per person (based on two sharing) and includes flights, hire car, accommodation on a B&B basis and excursions. 01993 838089 / www.audleytravel.com/france.

Ireland — Audley’s specialists recommend spending 10 days in the lakes and mountains of Ireland, with a self-drive trip along the Wild Atlantic Way (Ireland’s west coast). Clients will kayak on Kenmare Bay with the chance to see seal colonies and other marine wildlife, hike up Torc Mountain and take a tour of the island of Inis Mór by bicycle — all with private local guides. Audley also provides guidance for clients to explore the local area independently by car, with drives around the Beara Peninsula, Dingle Peninsula, Connemara National Park and the Ring of Kerry recommended. Foodies will enjoy an Irish whiskey and farmhouse cheese tasting evening in Killarney.

Audley’s Ireland’s Wild Atlantic Way itinerary costs from £3,050 per person (based on two sharing) and includes ferry travel, accommodation on a B&B basis and excursions. 01993 838173.

Audley favourites

Also joining the lakes and mountains collection are Audley’s favourite outdoors itineraries including a 13-day trip to Chile & Argentina’s Patagonia Highlights (from £4,900 per person based on two sharing), a 10-day self-drive trip to Scotland’s West Highlands and the Isle of Skye (from £2,995 per person based on two sharing), a 13-day trip exploring Alaska by Train and Self-drive (from £6,285 per person based on two sharing) and a 13-day itinerary New Zealand Great Outdoors from £4,825 per person based on two sharing).

Alex Bentley, Head of Product for Audley Travel said: "As clients return to travel we know they are keen to explore away from the busy tourist spots. Our new lakes and mountains collection is perfect for this, with clear alpine air and beautiful lakes to enjoy. As with all of Audley’s trips, the ideal itinerary for the client is designed just for them based on their budget, tastes and wish-list and could feature the lakes and mountains of one destination or they could feature as an element of a longer country- or continent-wide trip."
