Situated on a crescent of white sand, Anantara Bazaruto Island Resort & Spa has an idyllic setting and a peaceful atmosphere, with the focus here being on relaxation. Accommodation is in spacious, thatched villas spread along the beach and hillside, most of which boast their own pool, with their neutral décor helping to draw attention to the beautiful ocean views. Buildings are low-rise and thatched to blend in with the natural landscape, surrounded by palm trees and tropical foliage. Guests can while away the day in one of the hammocks, which are placed beneath shady trees around the gardens or directly above the ocean, while the adults-only infinity pool appears to lead straight into the ocean.
The spacious villas offer ocean views and modern amenities such as TVs, air conditioning, minibars and safes, as well as mosquito nets. Beach Villas span 58 square metres, featuring king sized or twin beds and a living area leading to the veranda. Sea View Pool Villas offer a private terrace, outdoor dining area and plunge pool. Deluxe Sea View Pool Villas feature a kitchen area, two en suite bedrooms and a deck furnished with a dining table and plunge pool with Jacuzzi.
The romantic Beach Pool Villa has a plunge pool with Jacuzzi, two-person bathtub and king sized four-poster bed. The two bedroom Anantara Pool Villa boasts a private driveway and entrance, a plunge pool with Jacuzzi, outdoor dining area and deck with panoramic views.
The resort is located on the western coast of Bazaruto Island, which is 30 kilometres east of mainland Mozambique and the largest island in the Bazaruto Archipelago. The island is part of the Bazaruto Archipelago National Park, and its protection means that it remains untouched by the western world, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in the natural surroundings.
Food and Drink
The resort has several dining options, including Golfino, a Mediterranean restaurant serving breakfast and dinner on a deck overlooking the bay; Tartaruga, which serves international cuisine for lunch and dinner; and Clube Naval, which is open for lunch and dinner, serving international dishes in a casual beachside setting. For a more intimate experience, Dining by Design allows you to liaise with your own chef to enjoy personalised meals in a private setting of your choice.
Families can be accommodated in the two bedroom Deluxe Sea View Pool Villas and the Anantara Pool Villa. The resort offers a babysitting service, and there’s a family pool. The varied activities on offer at the resort will also appeal to families, keeping children and adults alike entertained and active.
The Beach Pool Villas is particularly well suited to couples, featuring a two-person bathtub, four-poster bed and private plunge pool, as well as a veranda offering beautiful views at sunset. Its location right on the beach also allows for romantic sunset strolls along the shoreline.
Facilities and Activities
In addition to its two pools and fitness centre, a wealth of activities are offered at the resort, including cooking lessons, beach volleyball and watersports such as kayaking, wakeboarding and wind surfing. Go snorkelling in the clear waters offshore, or enjoy horse riding along the beach. Meanwhile, Anantara Spa offers relaxing treatments and massages using Western and African techniques, along with a hydrotherapy pool and juice bar.
Environmental and Social Responsibility
The resort is participating in a sustainable coral gardening project, in cooperation with the national park, to help preserve the island’s fragile marine ecosystem.
During your stay you can arrange to visit a local village to learn about life on the island, tour the island in a 4x4, perhaps stopping to see the 19th century lighthouse or go birdwatching with a local guide, with over 180 bird species found on the island. Keen anglers can go on deep sea fishing trips, and cruises to spot dolphins are also available, as well as sunset sailing aboard a traditional dhow. Half day snorkelling trips to nearby Paradise Island can be arranged, including a barbecue lunch on the beach.
This resort has excellent, modern facilities and a beautiful setting. We highly recommend it for those seeking a relaxing and luxurious island option, as well as for those who are more active.
