Itinerary idea in detail

Includes international flights from a choice of UK airports, including London, Birmingham, Manchester, Newcastle, Edinburgh and Glasgow.

  • Today you begin your journey by boarding your international outbound flight to Auckland. Arriving in Auckland, known as ‘the City of Sails,’ with its twin harbours and rich maritime history, you’ll be driven to your hotel in a private vehicle. You’ll have the rest of the day to settle in and either explore the city or relax in your hotel. We suggest visiting the Auckland War Memorial Museum to learn about New Zealand's history, or venturing to the Sky Tower to take in the 360-degree views of the city.

  • Today, pick up your rental car downtown and make your way North to the Bay of Islands. We suggest stopping in Matakana, a beachside town known for artisan food, wineries, boutiques, and weekend markets, on the way up. Spend the rest of the day exploring downtown Paihia or taking the car ferry across to Russell, the first permanent European settlement, with a checkered past and reputation, and New Zealand's first licensed establishment, The Duke of Marlborough.

  • Immerse yourself in New Zealand’s cultural heritage with a visit to the Waitangi Treaty Grounds, the birthplace of the nation, where a private guided tour brings to life the story of the treaty signed between Māori chiefs and the British Crown. Explore the landscaped grounds and exhibits before returning to Paihia for a helicopter flight over the Bay of Islands. Soar above the region’s turquoise waters and islands before landing at the iconic Hole in the Rock for a truly unforgettable perspective of this coastal paradise.

  • Today you'll spend the day on the water on a Wildlife Cruise, exploring the Bay of Islands aboard a small-group catamaran. Cruise through secluded bays and coastal islands while keeping watch for dolphins, penguins, seabirds, and other marine life. Along the way, learn about the region’s unique ecosystem from passionate local marine biologist guides and enjoy opportunities to swim, snorkel, or relax in some of New Zealand’s most beautiful coastal scenery.

  • Today, you'll journey west to the shores of Hokianga, travelling through the heartland of Northland. Discover the region's rich Māori heritage with a visit to the Manea Footprints of Kupe Experience, where the story of Polynesian voyaging and settlement in Aotearoa is brought to life. This evening, venture into the enchanting Waipoua Forest for a twilight tour to gain a deeper appreciation of the ancient kauri giants, including Te Matua Ngahere and the majestic Tāne Mahuta, the largest known kauri tree in the world.

  • Today, travel south from Hokianga to Rotorua, journeying through some of New Zealand’s diverse landscapes, from rolling farmland and native forests to volcanic plateaux. On arrival in Rotorua, known for its geothermal wonders and rich Māori culture, spend the remainder of the day exploring this vibrant lakeside destination at your leisure.

    Stay at Millennium Hotel Rotorua
  • After a long day of driving, today is yours to unwind and recharge in Rotorua, a region renowned for its geothermal wonders and deep cultural heritage. Begin with a relaxing wellness experience at Wai Ariki Hot Springs & Spa, where restorative treatments and mineral-rich waters draw inspiration from Māori healing traditions. Later, explore Rotorua’s geothermal landscapes on a leisurely walk, discovering steaming vents, bubbling mud pools, and vibrant geothermal features that showcase the region’s remarkable volcanic activity.

  • Today, travel from Rotorua to Tongariro National Park, stopping en route to explore the vibrant lakeside town of Taupō. Admire views of New Zealand’s largest lake, perhaps pausing at the spectacular Huka Falls, before continuing across the dramatic landscapes of the Central Plateau. Arrive in Tongariro to take in the awe-inspiring volcanic peaks that define this UNESCO World Heritage-listed region.

  • Spend the day discovering the landscapes of Tongariro National Park, a place of natural beauty and cultural significance. Wander through a landscape of volcanic valleys, Alpine vegetation, and ancient lava flows, with sweeping views of the iconic peaks of Tongariro, Ngauruhoe, and Ruapehu. From gentle walks to more adventurous hikes, the park offers countless opportunities to experience the dramatic scenery and unique character of New Zealand’s volcanic heartland.

  • Today, journey south from Tongariro National Park to Wellington, traveling through a landscape of rolling countryside, charming rural towns, and rugged coastline. As you approach New Zealand’s vibrant capital, enjoy sweeping views of Wellington Harbour before heading to the Interislander ferry to cross the Marlborough Sounds to Picton for a night in wine country, Blenheim.

  • This morning you'll make your way from your hotel to the picturesque head of the Queen Charlotte Track. The next three days you'll spend hiking on a guided walk. You'll begin your adventure at historic Ship Cove, where Captain Cook first landed in New Zealand. Accompanied by your guide, follow scenic coastal trails through lush native forest and tranquil bays, taking in breathtaking views across the Marlborough Sounds before arriving at your lodge for the evening.

  • On day two of your walk, you'll follow a coastal trail through regenerating native bush, alive with birdsong and rich local history. Pass the historic Endeavour Inlet and tranquil bays before reaching the waterfront retreat of Punga Cove.

  • Enjoy one of the most spectacular sections of the Queen Charlotte Track, traversing the scenic ridgeline with panoramic views over the Queen Charlotte and Kenepuru Sounds. Finish the day at the iconic Portage Hotel, or opt for a relaxing boat transfer.

    Stay at The Portage
  • Enjoy a final day of walking through native bush and along coastal viewpoints. The trail leads to Anakiwa Jetty, the gateway to the Marlborough Sounds, where your journey concludes. Tonight, you'll return to your place to stay in Blenheim for a restful night of wine and reflection on all you have accomplished during your walk.

  • This morning, you'll make your way from Blenheim to Nelson, where you'll fly to Queenstown, New Zealand’s adventure capital. The remainder of the day is yours to enjoy at a leisurely pace. Take time to unwind and soak in the region’s Alpine scenery, perhaps with a lakeside stroll, a visit to a local spa, or a relaxed afternoon sampling world-class food and wine before settling in for a restful evening.

  • On your last day in New Zealand, discover the renowned vineyards of Gibbston Valley on a scenic e-bike adventure, cycling between cellar doors while sampling some of Central Otago’s finest wines. Afterwards, soothe tired muscles with a relaxing soak in the nearby Onsen Hot Pools, where you can unwind in private cedar tubs overlooking the stunning Shotover River canyon.

  • You’ll be collected from your hotel today and driven to the airport in time for your onward flight. Your return flight will arrive the same day.
