Bartholomeus Klip

This Victorian farmstead with its own 10,000 acre private nature reserve is located an hour and a half's drive from Cape Town. The main farmhouse (which is over 100 years old) has only four luxury rooms and a suite, so exclusivity is guaranteed. There is also the Wild Olive House which has two double bedrooms, a single bedroom and two bathrooms, ideal for families. The decor throughout is traditional with antique furniture and floral fabrics to reflect the farm's history. The main farmhouse has several lounges, a large shady balcony and nearby is a salt-water swimming pool set among beautiful gardens.

Bartholomeus Klip is the perfect place to unwind in the peace of the countryside, or adventure out to explore the wine farms and appealing little towns nearby. Highlights of a stay at Bartholomeus Klip are the morning and evening game drives through the nature reserve. There are many species of antelope found here, easily seen in the low fynbos or on the grassy plains, but the most important inhabitant of the reserve is a far smaller creature: the endangered geometric tortoise, one of the world's rarest reptiles, safe here in its last remaining viable habitat. Guests can also enjoy walks, bike rides, birdwatching, canoeing and fly-fishing on the lake. Cuisine is a highlight here, with imaginative dishes making good use of the abundant local produce.
