Lchang Nang Retreat, nestled in Tegar village, Nubra Valley, is owned by the illustrious Kalon family, who have lived in the region for generations. Driven by a passion for sustainable tourism, Rigzin Kalon, the eldest son, left behind a thriving city career to return home and launch Lchang Nang.
Lchang Nang stretches across 20 acres of Ladakh’s high-altitude desert, where 17 mud, stone, and poplar cottages reflect traditional Ladakhi architecture. Interiors blend rustic charm with quiet sophistication — whitewashed walls, dark floors, and soft furnishings framing views of snow-capped peaks. Each cottage opens onto a private terrace with a sunbed, offering a peaceful spot to relax and take in the surrounding landscape.
Lchang Nang’s kitchen champions local, seasonal, and organic ingredients, with produce sourced from its solar-powered hydroponic greenhouse. The menu blends Ladakhi, Tibetan, Indian, and Continental flavors, served indoors or out on a spacious patio with sweeping mountain views.
Sustainability is a cornerstone of Lchang Nang. Over 15 acres of land remains wild and untouched, providing grazing space for local wildlife. It’s also one of the first hotels in the region to be powered by a solar grid, which supplies energy for both electricity and solar-heated geysers.
The retreat offers a variety of immersive experiences at an additional cost, including a farm picnic, a sundowner by the Shyok River, or dinner on the dunes. Guests can also visit Samstanling Monastery at sunrise, take guided village walks, or enjoy an authentic meal at a 400-year-old heritage home, hosted by a local women’s cooperative. Combining comfort and simplicity, Lchang Nang offers travelers peace and tranquility.
Set against the stark beauty of Nubra’s high-altitude desert, Lchang Nang offers more than just the elegance of its Ladakhi-style cottages and organic cuisine. It’s shaped by Rigzin Kalon’s personal journey home, one that brings a sense of purpose and integrity to every detail. With curated regional explorations and a deep-rooted commitment to sustainability, Lchang Nang becomes a gentle invitation to reconnect with land, tradition, and yourself.

Rooms
The 17 cottages are designed in the traditional Ladakhi architectural style using mud, stone, and poplar. Inside, white distressed walls and black oxide floors create a soothing contrast to wooden ceilings, while handpicked rugs and soft pastel furnishings enhance the warm, elegant interiors. Every cottage includes a sunbed, perfect for enjoying a book while admiring the snow-capped Himalayas. Blessed with abundant sunshine, Ladakh’s rain shadow landscape makes outdoor relaxation effortless. A garden door leads to a private terrace shaded by willow trees, an idyllic space to unwind, soak in the views, and bask in the sun.
Location
Lchang Nang is in Tegar village, on the eastern side of the Nubra Valley near Sumur, along the historic Silk Route. This part of the valley, often referred to as Lower Nubra, is known for its slow pace and lesser-trodden paths.
Food and drink
At the heart of Lchang Nang’s philosophy is a dedication to local, seasonal, and organic cuisine. The restaurant’s menu reflects a blend of Ladakhi, Tibetan, Indian, and Continental flavors, with dishes crafted from fresh produce sourced from their own solar-powered hydroponic greenhouse. The main restaurant extends onto a spacious patio, offering the option to dine indoors or outside while soaking in unforgettable mountain views.
Facilities and activities
Lchang Nang offers quiet corners beneath willow trees, perfect for reading or simply taking in the stillness. Guests can unwind with a soothing spa treatment or enjoy sundowners as the day fades. Beyond the retreat, experiences range from guided village walks, farm picnics, stargazing on the sand dunes and visits to little-known monasteries at sunrise, to practicing yoga and meditation alongside a Ladakhi monk.
