Situated on sloping hills, the seven secluded bungalows offer a haven in an idyllic setting of comfort and stunning views. All bungalows are built in accordance with traditional practices using local materials and traditional artifacts, but there are modern comforts of air-conditioning and large windows. The bungalows, hand-built by Sumban craftsman, have private verandas offering views of the endless Indian Ocean with its dramatic cliffs and the sloping Sumbanese headlands.
The design of the bungalows is based on twin sharing, each with a king-size bed or twin beds, air-conditioning (from 6pm until 8am), ceiling fan, bathroom with hot water, minibar, electric kettle, and a safe deposit box. They are appointed with beautiful traditional Sumba ikat cloth and the deluxe rooms have beautiful four-poster beds. The hotel has a small swimming pool, perfect for the intensely hot days that Sumba is known for with its long dry season. The white sand beaches are a 30 minute walk, bike or horse ride away.
Sumba Nautil Resort’s Algerian and French owners Ali and Marie Jose take pride in a memorable dining experience. The traditional, Sumbanese spacious and airy restaurant offers a wide range of healthy breakfasts, light lunches and modern European cuisine enhanced with Asian influences for dinner. To complement your meal, choose a unique bottle from the extensive wine list, offering a wide selection of fine wines from all over the world.
If the hosts are not there then unfortunately there is very limited English spoken by the staff. The property do not take credit cards and the nearest ATM is over an hour's drive away.
