Selogriyo Temple

Picnic in the past

Selogriyo Temple

Today, you'll be picked up at your hotel and driven from Yogyakarta to Semarang (or vice versa) to explore the local communities along the route, before sitting down to a picnic outside a 9th century temple.

Upon arrival in Central Java, your guide will take you on an easy two km (1.25-mile) walk through the countryside. The path takes you through lush, terraced rice paddies and active fruit plantations, where you'll have the opportunity to engage with friendly locals and farmers as they go about their daily activities. As you reach the end of the trek, the path goes up a small hill, where the mystical Selogriyo Temple awaits. Hindu in origin and perched on the west hillside of Mount Sumbing, it dates back to the 9th century. This architectural marvel faced a significant challenge in the 90s when a landslide struck. However, through dedicated restoration efforts, the temple was meticulously reconstructed, preserving its historical and cultural significance. You'll have time to explore the area before sitting down to a picnic with panoramic views of the temple complex.

After lunch, you'll be taken back to your hotel.
