Daikichi Ryokan, Tsumago, Japan
Located just on the edge of town's main center, the Daikichi is an excellent example of traditional accommodation, and one of the most conveniently located inns for exploring the Nakasendo Highway. The inn's 5 rooms are small and basic, with shared bathrooms, but ooze that authentic Japanese feel and command excellent views of the nearby wooded valley. The food is sourced from local produce and what you get is very much dependent on the season. Some of the specialities you can expect to taste vary from mountain vegetables to handmade buckwheat noodles.

Fujioto Ryokan
Fujioto Inn is a basic, traditional property located in the village of Tsumago. What sets it apart is its great location and the kind hospitality of the Fujihara family who run it, along with the exquisite local cuisine they serve.

Hanaya Ryokan
Situated right by the Nakasendo Highway in O-Tsumago - a pleasant 20 minute walk away from Tsumago - the Hanaya is well established as a ryokan. The property has two distinct sections, the oldest part dating back to the Edo period (1603 - 1867) and is full of character.
