Sai No Niwa

Sai No Niwa

Kanazawa, Japan

Housed in a modern building 15-20 minutes away from the station on foot, the Sai No Niwa Hotel offers Western and semi-Western rooms with en suite bathrooms and a range of modern amenities, including TVs, Wi-Fi access and individual temperature controls.

On-site facilities include a restaurant serving a buffet breakfast (with helpful cards for those with allergies), gym, large communal bath with views of the pristine gardens, a tea lounge and bicycle hire, which is a good way of exploring the area and accessing public transport for sightseeing.

OUR OPINION:

Despite being a little away from the main area of town, the principal plus point are the serene and tranquil gardens. A complimentary shuttle bus makes getting to town easy enough.

Rooms

The rooms are all very minimalist in their design, using Japanese efficiency to maximize space through sliding doors and sleek furniture. The light woods used add to the airiness of the rooms too. All the deluxe rooms have raised tatami floors that can act as rest space or for those needing to accommodate more guests, for futon.

Location

The hotel offers a shuttle bus to and from Kanazawa station (West Exit) every 40 minutes from 9am-9pm (from 7am from hotel). This is also helpful for traveling to the station from the hotel for sightseeing.

Food and drink

The Sai No Niwa Hotel serves breakfast only. The buffet serves both Japanese and Western dishes with a selection of made to order entrees also available.

Facilities and activities

The public baths, using water from Mount Hakusan, all have garden views in keeping with the name of the property, Niwa, to mean garden.  There is a small fitness center for the active or lounge and library areas for the more sedate, again all overlooking the gardens.  You can of course cogitate and contemplate in said gardens or make use of the rental bikes to head around town.
