Itinerary idea in detail

With international flights from a choice of airports including London, Birmingham, Manchester, Newcastle, Edinburgh and Glasgow.

  • Today you begin your journey by boarding your international outbound flight to Anchorage. You will be met upon arrival in Anchorage for a private transfer to your downtown hotel. The remainder of the day is free for you to relax after your flight or begin exploring Alaska's largest city.

  • Spend a day at leisure in Anchorage, perhaps visiting the Captain Cook memorial, the Alaska Native Heritage Center, or walk or cycle around part of the beautiful Cook Inlet.

  • Board a scenic one-hour seaplane flight from Anchorage's Hood Lake to Winter Lake. Located on the southern boundary of Denali National Park and on the historic Iditarod dog-sledding trail, Winterlake Lodge is one of Alaska's best wilderness lodges, offering seclusion, spectacular scenery, superb food and a relaxed ambience. Your hosts will meet you and provide an orientation of the lodge. You may then wish to take part in one of the many activities. All meals are included and, as lodge owner Kirsten Dixon is a renowned chef, will be a real treat during your stay.

  • After a delicious breakfast it is time for you to take part in some of the available activities. These include narrated walks, hiking, canoeing, kayaking and birdwatching. One helicopter trip is included during your stay and allows you to get to remote areas or fly over magnificent mountain scenery. During lunch and dinner there is time to get to know your fellow guests and discuss the activities you have taken part in.

  • Choose between further activities today or simply relaxing by the fire at the lodge, admiring the view from the large windows. You can also take part in cooking classes, wine and cheese tastings, yoga, or relax in the sauna or hot tub.

  • After breakfast, it is time to say farewell to lovely Winterlake Lodge. Board the seaplane for the return flight back to Anchorage. Upon arrival take a private transfer to the cruise ship terminal in Seward to board your Silversea Cruises cruise ship. You will be welcomed onboard and shown to your suite — all feature sea views, and most have a private teak veranda. Guests are well looked after by an attentive butler and all meals, drinks, gratuities and entertainment are included. You can expect personal service with ships that are large enough to offer excellent facilities but small enough to escape the crowds.

  • Having travelled east overnight, you awake this morning at the Hubbard Glacier, bound to be a highlight of your cruise. This tidewater glacier is set among magnificent mountains and is a sight to behold, especially if you are lucky enough to witness the glacier 'calving' huge chunks of ice into the water below.

  • Today you arrive in Alaska's small capital, Juneau. There is the Mendenhall Glacier to explore, or you may prefer to go sea kayaking, whale watching, try glacier dog-sledding, or take a helicopter flight.

  • Wake to find yourself in Skagway. After a delicious breakfast, disembark in this Klondike gold rush-era town. Options today include a chance to go gold-panning, take a historic train trip through spectacular mountain scenery, see glaciers by helicopter or hike part of the Chilkoot Trail.

  • Arrive in Sitka, once the capital of Russian Alaska. This pretty port is known for the onion domes of St. Michael's Cathedral and a wide variety of activities are available to you. These include rainforest hiking, sea kayaking, salmon fishing, taking a wildlife cruise or a Sitka town guided walking tour.
