Half Day Island in the Sky 4x4 Tour
Half Day Island in the Sky 4x4 Tour, The USA
This Island in the Sky excursion gives you a completely different taste of the wild canyonlands landscapes, taking you to the top of a lofty mesa to look down into the tangle of canyons through which the Green and Colorado rivers flow.
The interior of the park will be explored on a 112-mile four-wheel drive loop that winds through the vast back country. This half-day expedition gets you out to see the spectacular wide-open spaces of Canyonlands National Park and the trip includes stops to peer into the Colorado River corridor, a portion of the White Rim Trail and an exciting drive under a fallen boulder.
You will also stop at one of the area's largest concentrations of pre-historic American Indian rock drawings. Further on you will see Jug Handle Arch where careful explorers will spot more ancient Indian petroglyphs.
The off-road tour then winds through a spectacular landscape with towering rocks, wide-open spaces and deep canyons. Stand 400 feet above the Colorado River at Thelma and Louise Point where the two characters roared off the cliff in the well-known film before beginning your slow drive out of the park through the steep switchbacks of Shafer Trail, an historic cattle and mining road, climbing a 1200-foot section of cliff.
Please note, a $5.00 per person National Park entrance fee is payable locally.
