A luxe boutique hotel set on a palm-studded private estate in Nassau and overlooking the marina, The Island House features 30 bedrooms and suites with exclusive private beach access. The property has been carefully designed with laid back island life in mind and an emphasis on wellbeing, whilst ensuring an effortlessly understated style.

The communal areas are stylish and spacious, as is the sophisticated and contemporary range of rooms and suites, with many featuring ocean views or French doors opening onto a private terrace. OUR OPINION:

We chose The Island House for its ability to effortlessly exude sophisticated style within the lush, natural surroundings of a private estate, with a welcome focus on wellness and relaxation.

Rooms

The Island House offer rooms and apartments, both of which are sophisticated and simplistic in decor, awash with neutral tones and contemporary natural furnishings. Balconies or private terraces provide a touch of the outdoors, while the bathrooms feature freestanding baths and Bamford Spa products. All accommodation comes with Wi-Fi, air-conditioning, a minibar and a TV as standard.

Location

A mere five minutes from Nassau airport and overlooking the marina, The Island House is conveniently located for exploring both Nassau’s central hub and the quieter island life. The daily beach shuttle transports guests to private pure white sands in less than five minutes, while the National Art Gallery of The Bahamas, The Primeval National Park and Stuart Coves are within easy reach.

Food and drink

While in-room dining is available, The Coffee Bar bakery and deli is where you’ll find breakfast and lunch. At the property’s two main restaurants, evening dining includes rich, Italian cuisine using local organic ingredients at The Mahogany House, or Shima, where fresh Southeastern Asian fare is served on the top floor of The Island House. Each restaurant includes a bar, as does the cinema. The hotel boasts a vast selection of revered wines, hand-picked to pair with specific dishes, while the Mahogany House Market is open daily and provides wine tasting and purchasing.

Families

While children are welcome at The Island House, there are no specific children’s facilities available.

Facilities and activities

A plethora of activities and facilities are available to guests, from squash courts to daily yoga classes, to private beach access and a 24-hour gym. The heated lap pool is open to all, complete with sun loungers and is found by the Bamford Spa, where treatments such as massages or facials are available. The art-cinema hosts 48 seats and features both blockbuster and art house films from the comfort of deep cushioned chairs, as well as live music, seminars and speaking events. Although not included in the hotel’s direct facilities, day trips and water sports are available and arranged direct through the hotel.
