The Punakha lodge is at an elevation of 4,595ft (1,400m), a 15-minute drive north of the Punakha Dzong and is fondly known as the ‘Flying Farmhouse amidst the rice fields’. It’s in the warmest of the lodge locations, temperatures can reach 32°C (86°F) in the summer months.

There are 16 luxurious suites and three villas with private pools. All rooms are thoughtfully designed to complement the natural surroundings, have warm, wooden interiors and include characterful Bhutanese touches. They are spacious and comfortable with modern amenities and large windows provide plenty of natural light (and offer views of the stars at night).

Built in 1637, Punakha Dzong served as the seat of the government until the mid 20th century. Over the centuries it has suffered damage from several fires and flooding but still remains one of the most impressive dzongs in Bhutan.
