The train journeys through the Scottish Highlands, allowing you to soak up the wild and rugged beauty of the landscape from the comfort of stylish carriages, which have been carefully resorted with mahogany panelling and plush Scottish fabrics. You can relax in your private cabin, the two vintage dining cars where chefs serve delectable Scottish fare paired with the finest wines and whiskies, the Observation Car and bar, or the Bamford Haybarn Spa carriage, which offers a variety of treatments. Interspersed with unique sightseeing excursions to fully showcase the culture and scenery of the Highlands, a journey aboard the Belmond Royal Scotsman provides the opportunity to dress up and experience the grandeur of train travel while exploring the landscape of Scotland.

Please note that there is a strict dress code on board: while during the day comfortable, casual attire is recommended, in the evenings a jacket and tie is required for informal dinners and black tie, tuxedo or a kilt for formal events.

Restored with mahogany panelling and plush Scottish fabrics, the carriages of the Belmond Royal Scotsman promote luxury throughout. Influenced by the style of an Edwardian country house, each of the 40 cabins features warm, tartan fabrics, grand wood panelled walls, a dressing table and wardrobe. Each cabin also has a compact bathroom with a shower, wash basin and toilet.

Starting in Edinburgh you’ll board the Belmond Royal Scotsman and travel through the Scottish Highlands. There are a few different itineraries and, from time to time, the routing or activities offered may differ slightly to the itinerary, due to railway maintenance or unscheduled closures. You'll be presented with a daily schedule once you board the train, which will always reflect any changes.

Food and Drink

The train has two dining cars, where breakfast, lunch and dinner are served. All meals, alcoholic and soft beverages are included. Lunch and dinner are chosen from a set menu, which is presented at breakfast. Special dietary requirements can be catered for, but please let us know in advance so that we can pass the information onto the on-board chef in time for him to prepare.

Facilities and Activities

The Belmond Royal Scotsman exudes a relaxing ambience for the sophisticated traveller. On-board amenities include a small library and selection of board games. There's also a cabinet from which traditional Scottish gifts can be bought, and a one-of-a-kind spa carriage containing two treatment rooms and a menu of therapies, manicures and pedicures. Additionally, guests can enjoy Scotland’s spectacular, ever-changing scenery from the Observation Car. This has large windows and even an open veranda, as well as a well-stocked bar. In the evenings, traditional Scottish entertainment is provided, such as music or storytelling.

Due to the narrow corridors, facilities for guests in wheelchairs is limited. Guests with restricted mobility are advised to speak with their specialist in advance to discuss the suitability of a journey aboard the Belmond Royal Scotsman. Furthermore, this train is not suitable for anyone who suffers from motion sickness.
