Get a taste of the freshest lobster on this guided fishing and lobster dinner cruise.
Lobster fishing is at the heart of Prince Edward Islands life, having been hauling for more than 150 years from 45 different ports. While lobster suppers are a 'must do' here, the freshest lobster and best way to see the fishermen work, is by taking a guided cruise with lobster meal.
The two-and-a-half-hour journey aboard 'Top Notch' begins from Charlottetown dock. Heading out into Charlottetown harbour, Captain Mark and his brother Cody explain the importance of the lobster fishery to Prince Edward Island's economy, and the conservation measures being used to protect the stock. You’ll see how GPS technology is used to guide fishermen to their traps, and they’ll have the opportunity to check out the bottom of the harbour using sonar.
There’s plenty of seating on deck which can be enclosed to give shelter from poor weather. Once at the first lobster trap, you’ll help haul the catch from the water, and if you’re brave enough, have the chance to hold a live lobster. After adding fresh bait, the trap will be put back in the water as you head to the mouth of the harbour and into the Northumberland Strait.
It’s difficult to find a better setting for fresh lobster dining than on board this boat, anchored near the mouth of Charlottetown harbour. You can choose to have your lobster served hot or cold and meals include a 1 lb lobster, coleslaw and potato salad. You may wish to enjoy a glass of wine, as 'Top Notch' cruises back into harbour.
