White Pass railroad

White Pass railway trip

Step back in time following in the footsteps of the Klondike gold rush pioneers on this scenic rail journey.

The White Pass and Yukon Route Railway is a 45 km (28 mile) rail journey over the White Pass Summit through mountain peaks and over wooden trestle bridges into the Alaskan town of Skagway. The rail route has a rich Klondike pioneer history, as it was created and used during the 1890s gold rush. This full day journey allows you a glimpse into the past as you follow the same route from the comfort of your rail carriage.

The tour begins with a coach transfer from Whitehorse to the border with British Columbia along the Klondike Highway, where you’ll board the historic train and continue on the journey. On the way, enjoy the views as you pass iridescent blue lakes and mountain peaks, hugging the cliffs with sheer drops on the other side. The onboard guides will point out major landmarks like the White Pass summit, Cantilever Bridge and Bridal Veil Falls.

Once in Skagway, you’ll make the border crossing, so keep your passport handy, and then have two hours of free time to explore the historic town. You can learn more about the gold rush at the Skagway Museum and Klondike Gold Rush National historic Park Visitor Centre. You’ll then make the return journey by train and coach. The total tour time is about eight hours. A picnic lunch is included on your journey.
