El Infiernito and El Fosil Museum
El Infiernito and El Fosil Museum, Colombia
You will be met by your guide and drive out to see the archaeological ruins at the Muisca observatory (Muiscas were an indigenous Indian tribe that the Spanish wiped-out). The observatory was partially destroyed by the Spanish but enough remains intact for your visit.
The Spanish also referred to it as "Little Hell' (El Infiernito), due to its large penile-like structures that stood for fertility. The Spanish thought this was obscene and tried to destroy them. You will then head to El Fosil -a museum housing a pre-historic kronosaurus marine reptile 3 metres long. Return to Villa de Leyva.
