Septimo Paraiso, Cloudforest, Ecuador
Septimo Paraiso is located ten minutes outside of the small town of Mindo in a protected cloudforest reserve. It was founded in 2001 with the goal of preserving the forest and its diverse ecosystems. The reserve has one of the largest bird counts in the northwestern area of Pichincha; with 328 species of birds identified. The altitude within the reserve varies from 950 metres to 1,650 metres; creating one of the most delicate, rich and complex ecosystems known in the Mindo region.
The lodge has 23 simple rooms with an air of old country elegance to them. No one room is the same, and allocation is dependent on availability at booking stage. However, all come with private bathrooms and hot water sourced from their own spring. There are plenty of facilities at the lodge including an outdoor pool and Jacuzzi, cloud forest walking trails, frog trail, two restaurants, a bar and an outdoor patio. In addition to birdwatching, a variety of other activities can be arranged in the local area including chocolate tours, rafting, and visits to orchid and hummingbird gardens.
