The resort basks in peaceful and scenic surroundings on the edge of the Chena River, the setting to which it owes its name. As a guest, you feel that nature is your closest companion, but the resort is nevertheless easy to reach. Fairbanks International Airport is just a short drive away, as is the main highway, and you’re also on the outskirts of Fairbanks itself. The resort offers 86 spacious cottages, some fronting the river, and a small number of suites in the main lodge. From the resort, you can easily pick up a selection of scenic walking trails that follow the river and put you in a good vantage for wildlife spotting.

The resort offers two types of cottage: garden or riverside. Irrespective of which you choose, you’ll find yourself in a wonderful setting. The spacious private cottages include a patio for sitting out and come with two queen beds. Within the main lodge, you can opt for a second-floor junior suite with a king-size bed. Every cottage and suite has air conditioning and an en suite bathroom. Additionally, the cottages are surrounded by plenty of outdoor space.

The property is slightly out of town toward Fairbanks International Airport and close to the main highway. You might experience some road noise, but we feel the riverfront location more than compensates.

Food and Drink

The Miner’s Hall Breakfast Room serves a full American-style buffet breakfast every morning. For lunch and dinner, you can visit the restaurant, Chena’s Alaskan Grill, which focuses on Alaskan cuisine infused with global favours as an added twist. You can dine both indoors or out for views of the river.

There are eight adjoining cabins big enough for families. The restaurant includes a selection of children’s meals.

Facilities and Activities

The surroundings naturally lend themselves to walking and wildlife spotting, as you can pick up a number of trails that trace the course of the river. You can also go fishing (with a permit).

The resort has accessible cabins with wheelchair access and private parking.

Environmental and Social Responsibility

The restaurant works alongside local farmers to source fresh, local ingredients for its menu, supporting the community at the same time.

Our opinion

The resort’s riverfront location more than made up for a bit of road noise we heard. The cabins and grounds were well maintained, although we thought the room decor could do with updating.
