Manawa Ridge

Manawa Ridge, Coromandel Peninsula, New Zealand

Our rating: Deluxe

Manawa Ridge is the dream creation of Willem and Carla van de Veen. Both artists and sculptors in their own right, they have adapted their crafts to build an incredible lodge, constructed from straw bales, mud bricks and carved beams. No compromise has been made on comfort however; the finishing touches provide the ultimate in luxury. The three luxury units feature hand carved beds, individually sculpted vanity units, spa baths, and open fires, which are complemented by fine linens and sumptuous finishings.

As the name suggests, the ridge on which the property perches affords incredible 360 degree views over stunning countryside to the Pacific Ocean beyond. Guests can enjoy a native bushwalk to an idyllic private beach or explore the 250 acre property. There is also fishing, golf or a visit to the historic gold town of Waihi. For the less active, relax in the 'pamper unit' with sauna, spa and alfresco massage treatments. In the evening, relax with your hosts and enjoy the natural New Zealand food created from the home grown organic vegetable garden, accompanied by wine from the underground wine cave.
