Ruaha River Lodge
Ruaha River Lodge, Ruaha National Park, Tanzania
Ruaha River Lodge has an enviable location around a kopje, overlooking the Ruaha River.
Hippo splash in front of the lodge, crocodile laze on sandbanks and lizards and rock dassies dash over the hot rocks. It's the sort of lodge where you feel instantly at home. The lodge is split in to two camps, each of which is run as a separate entity.
Each has a cluster of small stone and thatch cottages under tamarind trees. The cottages have little stone verandas, simple interiors with beds, mosquito nets and dressing tables, and en suite bathrooms, with warm running water, and sometimes the odd friendly frog.
The food is farmhouse-style cooking with an abundance of fresh ingredients, and there is always plenty to go round. Ruaha River Lodge is in a rich game area, and sitting in the lodge you are likely to see many animals come to drink from the river in front of you.
Activities at Ruaha River Lodge focus on morning, evening and full-day game drives in open 4X4s.
