The Leela, Goa

Leela, South Beaches Goa

A large resort in a beautiful setting, The Leela’s manicured gardens are dotted with lily ponds, temples and spice gardens, creating a peaceful sanctuary on the edge of a pristine sandy beach. The hotel is designed in the style of an ancient summer palace, with Hindu bronzes and mythical ‘Yali’ statues, while its rooms have a contrasting Portuguese style. Guests receive a warm South Indian welcome and can expect an efficient, friendly service throughout their stay. With plenty of activities on offer and a variety of dining options, you may not even need to leave the resort.

Accommodation options differ in terms of size, location within the resort and view type. Amenities include electronic safes, TVs and tea/coffee making facilities.

Lagoon Terrace rooms, Lagoon Suites and Lagoon Deluxe Suites surround the lagoon and feature private balconies. Conservatory Premiere rooms are also situated close to the lagoon, featuring a comfortable day bed overlooking the water.

Club Suites and Club Pool Suites are found closer to the beach and offer significantly more space, as well as additional facilities, including a private butler and in some cases, a plunge pool.

Meanwhile, the two bedroom Royal Villa has a living room, dining room, private plunge pool, Jacuzzi and terrace for further privacy and space. However, this is trumped by the Presidential Suite, which offers 400 square metres of sumptuous living space, including three bedrooms and a kitchenette.

The resort enjoys an idyllic location between the Sal River and the Arabian Sea, right beside a long stretch of sandy beach.

Food and drink

The Leela offers four restaurants and three bars, providing guests with an excellent choice of dining options each day. There’s also Susegado, providing a seafood grill beside the beach, and The Restaurant, where buffet food is available.

For light bites and a variety of drinks, head to Yali Lounge. You can also enjoy a refreshing beverage while sunbathing from The Pool Bar. Also by the pool is Aqua, where lively entertainment, music and dancing can be enjoyed each evening.

The property offers a babysitting service for an additional charge, and there’s a children’s activity centre and pool to keep younger guests entertained. The Royal Villa and Presidential Suite are the best accommodation options for families, offering two and three bedrooms respectively.

Facilities and activities

A host of facilities and activities are available here, including a gym, swimming pool, croquet and beach volleyball. For an additional charge, guests can make use of the floodlit tennis courts, 12 hole golf course, spa and salon. The property also has its own souvenir shop and offers currency exchange, valet parking and transportation.

Our opinion

With a great location on the golden sands of Mobor Beach, this luxurious resort is one of the best in Goa. While its size may not appeal to those looking for a more intimate, boutique experience, it does offer a wide range of facilities, ensuring you'll plenty to do while you're there. Meanwhile, those looking for a more relaxing beach stay will find ample space amongst the beautiful gardens and on the long stretch of sand.
