Thailand...another fantastic trip organised by Audley
Another fantastic trip organised by Audley. Our first trip to Thailand and our specialist Mat got...
The 16 rooms have an airy, modern design, with crisp whites and bursts of red accents. Each has a balcony or patio, as well as the facilities you would expect including air-conditioning, Wi-Fi, television, minibar and tea/coffee facilities.
The hotel is set on a silvery-sand beach on a quiet stretch of coastline in the northeast of Mauritius. The area is mostly residential, with a scattering of villas and small hotels along the coast. The village of Central Flacq is about 25 minutes’ drive away and has a good local market.
The main restaurant is set in the gardens near the entrance in an open-sided building with high, thatched roof and is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Mauritian and international dishes are available, with a focus on fresh produce. We suggest trying one of their Mauritian curries, served with a selection of chutneys. At weekends there’s a Sunday brunch with a Mauritian-style buffet.
A small, casual beachfront restaurant also opens for lunch (weather-dependent) set in the sand overlooking the ocean, serving seafood, salad and light snacks. Try the smoked marlin sandwich, a popular local snack.
There is also a bar behind the main restaurant with a wide range of locally-sourced rum, as well as an indoor lounge with board games.
The hotel welcomes children of any age, however there are no specific children’s facilities. As this is a boutique hotel with limited activities, we wouldn’t recommend it as particularly suitable for families.
The hotel will be happy to help you arrange a variety of excursions, including sailing trips, hiking or a tour to the local market in Central Flacq. Chateau de Labourdonnais, a restored Victorian mansion, and Pamplemousses Botanical Garden are about half an hour’s drive away, while the capital, Port Louis, is about 50 minutes’ drive.
On an island where large, chain resorts are so common, we were delighted to discover this small, boutique option. Simple yet chic, it offers a relaxed escape, great food and a welcoming, friendly service.
