Sabi Sands Private Game Reserve
Set on the edge of Kruger National Park, Sabi Sands is a private game reserve offering an exclusive safari experience. Wildlife moves freely between Kruger and the reserve and it is an ideal habitat for leopard. There are also frequent sightings of lion, rhino, elephant, hyena and buffalo. The animals here are very relaxed around vehicles allowing you to get close to many species as you explore in open vehicles with expert guides and on guided bush walks.
Arathusa Safari Lodge overlooks a waterhole and the main lodge includes an open-sided lounge, infinity pool and a deck for meals set right on the water. The 14 spacious rooms overlook the bush or the waterhole.
Constance Le Prince Maurice
89 rooms, 3 restaurants, 2 pools
With a beautiful, secluded location and a sheltered sweep of white sand beach, Constance Le Prince Maurice is a great choice for a relaxing beach stay.
Rustic, thatched roofs cover public spaces that are filled with marble floors and sculptural works. The effect is one of laid-back luxury and understated sophistication, and with only 89 suites and villas, the Prince Maurice is a relatively small property compared to most Mauritius resorts, retaining a relatively intimate feel.
The hotel is part of the Constance Hotels and Resorts group, who also operate excellent resorts in the Seychelles and Maldives and as you would expect from the group, service at the hotel is to a high standard with staff keen that you love your time there.
The complimentary children's club welcomes children of 4-11 years and offers a pool, open play areas, computer stations and arts and crafts activities as well as theme days. Indoor and outdoor activities are offered daily under supervision, and children's menus are also available on request, as well as babysitting facilities (at an additional cost).
Sitting on a private peninsula on the east coast of Mauritius, the Prince Maurice offers a feeling of seclusion. Although there are no private beaches in Mauritius, the hotel's location means that its long sweep of white sand beach is effectively private. The beach cove is north facing and sheltered from the prevailing winds and has a shallow gradient. Lush tropical gardens cover the grounds and a natural fish reserve on the western side of the property adds to the beauty. The hotel is a taxi ride from the village of Central Flacq where you will find shopping and restaurants.
The Constance Le Prince Maurice is a great luxury property with a wealth of facilities ensuring that you have plenty to keep you occupied whilst enjoying time by the beach. It is elegant and understated, private but welcoming. Despite the size the hotel still retains an intimate feel.
The 89 elegant villas and suites offer understated sophistication with hardwood floors, marble bathrooms, contemporary furnishings and large windows. All offer a balcony or terrace and have air conditioning, Apple Mac Mini, television and CD/DVD. The en suite bathrooms have both a bathtub and shower.

There are plenty of water sports to enjoy and a great number are complimentary, including sailing boats, kayaks, snorkelling, pedalos, waterskiing and wakeboarding. Kitesurfing is also available for a charge.

Food & drink
There are three restaurants and three bars at Le Prince Maurice.
The main restaurant, L' Archipel overlooks the swimming pool and the beach offering elegant à la carte dining with Mauritian influences or more casual dining in the Beach Deck area.
Le Barachois, open for dinner, has a spectacular setting and entrance which is navigated via a lantern-lit wooden walkway through the mangrove trees. Five floating decks sit over the waters of the lagoon and diners enjoy candlelit dinners of fresh seafood as well as tasty grills and Mauritian dishes.
The Asian Restaurant, in the Laguna Bar area, is open for lunch and dinner with a selection of sushi, sashimi and other Japanese dishes.
Prince Maurice guests can also dine at Constance Belle Mare Plage Hotel, a sister property only 10 minutes' drive away on a free shuttle.
Evenings are low key but sophisticated and the three bars all have different characters. The Lounge Bar is ideal for an apéritif before dinner while the Laguna Bar offers a livelier, yet still laidback atmosphere. Set by the pool side it offers smoothies, drinks and light snacks during the day as well as live jazz in the evenings. The Barachois bar shares the same stunning setting as the Barachois restaurant with ocean views and a beautiful mountain backdrop. This floating bar is a great spot for sunset.
Set in a quiet corner of the hotel's gardens the luxurious spa is a great place to relax. It uses Sisley products and features such treatments as the Ultimate Moments package, which has a choice of phyto-aromatic facials, or the Gentlemen's Escape, which includes foot reflexology and a Sisley facial.
Sabi Sands Private Game Reserve
Location: The Sabi Sands Game Reserve
The Sabi Sands has been an area of conservation and protection of big game since the inception of the original Sabie Game Reserve in 1898. An association of private landowners, the modern Sabi Sands Game Reserve shares an unfenced border with the Kruger National Park, and is fortunate to have two perennial rivers in a relatively small area. The resulting riverine bushveld is an absolute haven for leopard: you would be unlucky not to see at least one a day. The reserve also plays host to the four other members of the ‘Big Five’: lion, rhino, elephant and buffalo, as well as cheetah and the occasional wild dog pack. As there has been no hunting in the area for generations, the animals are very comfortable in the presence of humans, and this makes for superb game sightings. Put simply, there is no better place in the world for viewing the ‘Big Five’ in their natural habitat.
Arathusa Safari Lodge
Accommodation: Arathusa Safari Lodge
Situated in the popular Sabi Sands area of the Greater Kruger, Arathusa offers an intimate safari experience, with just 14 rooms. There are ten spacious thatched chalets which use a combination of natural materials to blend-in with the surrounding environment and have large en suite bathrooms, indoor and outdoor shower, air-conditioning, and a veranda overlooking the lodge's large waterhole. The four newer luxury rooms are set away from the waterhole (views are into the bush, rather than over the water), and are enormous, with comfy chairs, high thatch roofs, a bath in the corner of the room, and an en suite open-plan bathroom with indoor and outdoor shower and separate toilet. There is also a lovely deck area with sunloungers and a plunge pool. There are no televisions or telephones in the rooms, allowing guests to really 'get away from it all' and soak up the bush atmosphere. Arathusa offers excellent value for money and a lovely Big Five safari experience.
