Wa Ale Island Resort is a privately owned eco-tourism project in the Lampi Marine National Park, which is part of the Myeik Archipelago. This intimate island retreat sits in a protected cove, overlooking a white-sand beach and impressive rock formations. Here, you are able to experience the natural beauty of the Myeik Archipelago in relative comfort, with a view toward responsible and sustainable care for the environment.
The resort has two on site restaurants; the Main Pavilion Restaurant & Bar and the River Cafe & Bar, which serves a blend of Asian and Mediterranean dishes. Creative menus change every day and your chefs will use fresh produce from the island, local farms and sustainably caught seafood.
As well as two on site restaurants the resort has a dive and activity desk, spa, exercise facility, recreation area and a Turtle Sanctuary.

This small hotel boasts an enviable location and has worked hard to operate responsibly and limit its impact on the local environment. There are challenges that come with the remote location, thus the levels of English may not be as high as in Myanmar's cities, but we feel the experience is more than worth it.
There are only two room types: Tented Beach Villas, which are family sized with a capacity for four people, and Treetop Villas, which are designed for two people. All villas have Wi-Fi and mosquito nets and have been constructed using locally reclaimed materials. In keeping with their commitment to sustainability and limited environmental impact, there is no air conditioning in the rooms, though there are ceiling fans.
Wa Ale Resort can be found on the 9000-acre island of Wa Ale in the Andaman Sea, off the southern tip of Myanmar. If coming from Yangon, you would take a 1.5-hour flight to Kawthaung followed by a 15-minute trip to the jetty to board a one-hour-and forty-five-minute speedboat ride to the island. It’s a very similar journey if wishing to come from Bangkok. Or, from Phuket it is a 3.5-hour drive to Ranong followed by a 15-minute long tail boat ride across the border to Kawthaung to pick up the speedboat.
Food and drink
The resort has two on-site restaurants, the Main Pavilion Restaurant & Bar, serving breakfast, lunch and dinner, and the River Cafe & Bar, which hosts evening barbecues and offers light snacks and drinks throughout the day.
Menus change daily and are inspired by both Mediterranean and Asian cuisine, with a focus on heath foods and organic produce from the chefs garden and local community farms.
Wa Ale Resort welcomes children aged 8 and over.
Facilities and activities
The opportunities for exploration at Wa Ale resort are varied and there’s plenty to do in the national park. From snorkeling, diving, kayaking and trekking, to community visits and fishing lessons — you can take the adventure at your own pace and finish it all off with a massage in your villa.
Environmental and social responsibility
Wa Ale Island makes every effort to reduce its carbon footprint while maintaining a high level of service for you. The hotel donates 20% of their profits per annum directly to the Lampi Foundation, whose projects currently include turtle conservation, coral protection, community projects and local charitable donations.
