Grasmere Lodge, Arthur's Pass National Park, New Zealand
Built in 1858, Grasmere Lodge is tucked into a mountain landscape that will leave you with lasting memories. The lodge is a working farm and historic country retreat surrounded by a rugged and invigorating landscape, which offers the adventurous a great variety of outdoor pursuits such as kayaking and mountain biking. For those more inclined to peace and tranquillity, the den offers a quiet space for contemplation as do the leather bound comforts of the library, and the outdoor heated pool is a great place to while away the hours.
The original limestone homestead, now the core of the lodge, offers excellent service that is also very discreet. In the evening sit down to enjoy fine cuisine of the very best local ingredients, perhaps even some trout caught earlier in the day, coupled with superb local wines from the hillside wine cellar. Although Grasmere is a luxurious lodge it retains a relaxed, down to earth ambience. There are also some great places to walk in the surrounding area that give you a really good feel for New Zealand's big outdoors.
