The Master's Lodge, Napier, New Zealand
The Master's Lodge is perched high above the city of Napier in mature landscaped gardens, overlooking the Pacific Ocean. It was originally built in the style of the rare 'Australasian Bungalow' with low-pitched roof and board-and-batten exterior cladding, dispensing with the then popular style of English steep-pitched roofs and projecting balconies. In 1930 it was vastly extended by architect Louis Hay who added leadlight windows in elaborate Louis Comfort Tiffany designs, art deco doors, art nouveau brass door handles and plates, and Charles Rennie Mackintosh stylised rose motif leadlights, carvings & appliqués. The lodge offers exclusive accommodation for a maximum of four guests in two beautifully decorated guest rooms, ensuring a private and tranquil stay.
