An 18th-century wine estate offering rooms in a historic manor house and a chic new wing, the Quinta do Vallado is also home to an avant garde winery that guests can explore during their stay.
Quinta da Pacheca
A former 18th-century manor house, the Quinta da Pacheca wine hotel is set overlooking vineyards on the banks of the Douro River. The decor is a mix of the modern and the classic with contemporary artworks dotted between the main building’s stone staircases and large fireplaces.
The 15 rooms in the main building follow a classic design theme, with floral bedspreads and co-ordinating pillows and seating, though bathrooms are more modern. As standard, all rooms offer air conditioning, flat-screen TVs and complimentary Wi-Fi. Outside, you’ll find a further 10 barrel rooms where you can stay in giant re-purposed wine barrels that have been converted into mini, cabin-style rooms overlooking the surrounding vineyards.
Quinta da Pacheca gives the feel of being on a working farm with buildings surrounding the main manor house still being used for making wine and port. Guests staying during the grape harvest can take part in the harvest and enjoy picnics and tastings in the vineyards. However, you can enjoy the hotel’s excellent wine and cuisine throughout the year in its acclaimed restaurant which offers views over the Douro Valley.
The property it is just over half an hour from Pinhão and an hour and a half from Porto.

Rooms are classic and comfortable, with floral decor evoking the feeling of the original family home. The majority of the rooms are found in the original manor house, though guests also have the option of staying in one of ten converted wine barrels found out in the vineyards. All rooms offer modern comforts such as TVs, Wi-Fi and air conditioning, with some additionally offering balconies and river views. The wine barrel rooms each offer a small deck, sky light and large circular windows at the front.
Surrounded by rolling vineyards above the Douro River, Quinta da Pacheca is about half an hour from Pinhão by car and just over an hour and a half from Porto.
Food and drink
Awash in soft green tones, the hotel restaurant has large windows offering sweeping views over the Douro Valley. It is highly regarded for its traditional Portuguese cuisine, which revolves around ingredients typical of the region, and is popular with local diners who come to enjoy a meal which pairs each dish with a wine from the estate.
The hotel does not have an elevator, so we would not recommend this property for those with mobility issues.
Offering a home from home experience in the heart of the Douro Valley, we love the welcoming atmosphere and excellent food on offer at Quinta da Pacheca.
