Balanced between Sweden’s northernmost city and the vast pine forest of Swedish Lapland, Camp Ripan is a comfortable and sustainable base for exploring the region. The camp offers 92 airy, modern cabins, decorated in a traditional Nordic style, with lots of clean lines, light pine and a fireplace. The floor-to-ceiling windows allow light to fill the spaces and give you views over the surrounding nature. The family who own and run the camp are dedicated to sustainability, and you’ll find climate-smart energy systems, heat recycling and water conservation, as well as locally sourced food in the camp’s restaurant.
In addition to a spa, the camp offers a wide selection of activities in all seasons. In winter, you might go dog-sledding or seek the northern lights. When the summer sun stays high in the sky, you can choose from guided hikes or wildlife safaris, and in the autumn, take advantage of a guided tour of Kiruna or culinary adventures. In all seasons, the hotel offers a chance to meet the local Sámi and learn more about their culture.

Rooms
There are 92 contemporary cabins dotted amid the soaring trees. All of them feature modern Scandinavian decor, with light pine wood, lots of white and grey and a fireplace, as well as huge floor-to-ceiling windows that face north, to provide the best views of the aurora borealis. The en suite bathrooms all have showers.
You have your choice of five different styles. Giron cabins are the largest, with a separate bedroom and living area that can sleep up to four people, as well as a small kitchen and dining area. The Riekko and Rievssat cabins both have two bedrooms, making it a good option for friends, while Kiruna cabins offer king-sized beds.
Location
The camp is conveniently located on the outskirts of Sweden’s most northerly city, Kiruna, which is about a 90-minute flight from Stockholm. The area is known for its cloud-free nights, making it a good option for a winter visit if you want to see the northern lights.
Food and drink
- All ingredients locally and sustainably sourced.
- Meals served in the main dining hall, breakfast is a continental buffet.
- Restaurant Ripan has a dinner menu featuring Sámi dishes that shift with the eight traditional Sámi seasons.

- The month of May is reindeer calving month; spend time with the local herder and see the newborns take their first tentative steps.
- Aurora Spa has an indoor and outdoor plunge pool and two saunas with panoramic windows.
- Treatments include massages and body and face treatments using all-natural products.
