Part working coffee plantation, part relaxing guest retreat, Gibb's Farm is set in an old farmhouse on a wide lawn with views of the valleys and vibrant gardens.
Inside, you’ll find a dining room and living room with a roaring fire and small bar. In contrast to the often-dusty landscape of northern Tanzania, Gibb’s Farm boasts all shades and smells of greenery, with paths that wind between lilies, bougainvillea and rose bushes to 21 guest cottages. Rustic decor invites guests to stay in a bygone era, with just a touch of modernity, like the outdoor showers.
We warmly recommend Gibb's, which is popular with old safari hands and repeat guests. The rooms are lovely and there are many activities on offer, as well as plenty of quiet spots to relax and just take in the views.

Rooms
Decorated with country decor, the spacious cottages have plenty of places to sit and relax, an open fire, large bath, an indoor and outdoor shower, and a balcony that’s enshrouded with flowers and boasts views over the farm. Each is inspired by an element of the farm’s surroundings and culture, such as the Mulberry and Shamba cottages. Larger two-bedroom options are available for families and groups.
Location
Tucked away in the Ngorongoro Crater Highlands on a hill, with views over forests and green agricultural land, the farm is set on a working coffee plantation. About an hour's drive from Lake Manyara and the Ngorongoro Crater, Gibb’s Farm can also be a great base for full-day trips into either park.
Food and drink
Gibb's Farm grows all its own fruit and vegetables organically. On a walk around the farm you will see all manner of things growing, from pumpkins to papayas. There’s also a small coffee plantation. With produce straight from the gardens the food is superb and renowned through northern Tanzania. It’s simple farm cooking, plentiful and tasty, with homemade cake and biscuits always served with tea and of course, their own coffee.
Facilities and activities
In the evenings, there are often talks on indigenous healing or botany for guests who are interested. Gibb's Farm also offers spa and massage treatments based on local Masai traditions. These are tailor-made for each person, and guests are treated by experienced Masai healers (payable locally). Gibb's Farm is superb for relaxing, but if you'd like to be active, there's plenty to see and do.
You can take walks through the forests to waterfalls, elephant mineral caves, and along mountain tops. You can watch the coffee being roasted, visit the market in nearby Karatu, or learn more about the community projects that Gibb's supports.
Environmental and social responsibility
Gibb's Farm is associated with the charity Pack for a Purpose, which lists items that the local community or school need, should you want to take anything along with you as a donation.
