Bangsak Village

Khao Lak, Thailand

Set on the beautiful sands of Khao Lak in southern Thailand, Bangsak Village has only 50 rooms and a simple, natural feel that reflects Thailand as it used to be.

Service is friendly and with its small size, intimate atmosphere and no children allowed under 12 years old, the hotel is perfect for those looking to relax and switch off. However, as the centre of Khao Lak is only a 15-minute drive away, it’s still easy to head out to explore other restaurants or do a bit of shopping.

The rooms are comfortable and spacious offering stylish accommodation whilst the rest of the resort has a simple, rustic feel very different to the polished style of large, international resorts.

OUR OPINION:

This intimate, characterful hotel offers a simple, natural feel. Low-key and relaxed in a secluded setting it's a lovely spot in which to get away from it all yet is well placed for exploring the local area or visiting the local restaurants and shops.

Rooms

The spacious rooms have a calming decor with muted tones and fairly minimalist furnishings warmed by natural materials such as wood, bamboo or coconut shells. All feature a luxuriously large bath that can opened out to the room by drawing back the screen doors.

Location

Khao Lak lies just a one-hour drive north of Phuket and boasts a beautiful coastline and secluded beaches. Much less developed than Phuket to the south, Khao Lak has a more relaxed pace of life. It’s also the gateway to incredible diving around the Similan Islands and the world’s oldest evergreen rainforest at nearby Khao Sok National Park.

The Bangsak Village is located about a 15-minute drive from the centre of Khao Lak in a peaceful, secluded location.

Set along the beach, the resort enjoys a relaxed, rustic setting. The long sweep of golden sand beach is backed by lush green foliage and has a natural, unpolished feel, scattered with shells, driftwood and small bushes or green shoots. As the region is protected, beach chairs and umbrellas are not allowed on the beach.

Shops, restaurants and bars are available in Khao Lak, a 15-minute drive away, and there are also some local restaurants about a 20- to 40-minute walk along the beach.

Food and drink

The Rim Lae Bangsak Restaurant sits on a wooden deck at the beachfront with beautiful views over the beach to the sea beyond. Open air but covered by a bamboo roof, it has a simple, rustic but typically Thai feel serving traditional southern Thai food, international dishes and seafood.

The Coconut Bar is a great spot for sunset drinks. In keeping with the relaxed atmosphere at the resort, evening entertainment is not usually arranged except on special occasions.

Families

Bangsak Village does not allow children under 12 years old.

Facilities and activities

The hotel has a pool that stretches down toward the beach; a lovely spot in which to relax and switch off.

This is a small resort where the emphasis is on taking it easy, as such facilities are more limited than in the larger resorts. However, you can hire mountain bikes to explore the local area and the resort is happy to help arrange excursions if you'd like to be more active.

Local excursions

Khao Sok National Park, just over an hour’s drive north, is an incredible area of rainforest and massive limestone mountains that can be explored on elephant treks, on foot, by canoe or on bamboo rafts.

The stunningly photogenic scenery of Phang Nga Bay is only a 40-minute drive away across the peninsula and is well worth a visit for the towering limestone karsts or cliffs rising out of the bay.

Diving

The resort doesn’t have its own dive centre, but is happy to help guests arrange dive trips with local companies.

Diving in the area is among the best in the world and the Similan Islands are regularly featured in lists of top ten dive sites worldwide. Visibility can be up to 30 metres and you can see manta rays, whale sharks and turtles. Weather conditions between June and October usually mean that diving is not available.

Spa Facilities

There is a simple one-room spa at the beachfront that offers massages, scrubs and body wraps. It is also possible to have treatments outside on a small wooden deck that can be screened with blinds.
