Selva Verde Lodge and Rainforest Reserve is nestled in the rainforest just outside Puerto Viejo de Sarapiqui, and is a good base for exploring the surrounding forests and national parks.

The 40 river lodge rooms are simply but comfortably furnished and have an elevated position to give lovely views to the rainforest and river — all have a spacious balcony or patio with hammocks, ceiling fans and mosquito screens. There are also five more secluded rainforest bungalows, recently refurbished, with air conditioning and a walk away from the main lodge.

The lodge complex links to a private pristine rainforest reserve by bridge over the Sarapiqui River, with complimentary guided birdwatching tours available daily (other tours are also available to book locally). There is also a new swimming pool, restaurant (meals are often buffet style) and bar with a large terrace overlooking the forest.
