What our specialists say...
This mainland Ecuador trip offers a comprehensive cultural experience, mixing traditional indigenous villages with more modern Spanish influences. Beginning in the capital of Quito, you'll then head south along the Andes and Ecuador's famous "Route of the Volcanoes", taking-in the breathtaking scenery, with stops in small market towns along the way. In Riobamba you'll visit a remote, indigenous, hillside village which has reintroduced the native alpaca as a self-sustaining industry for the inhabitants. You'll continue by train to the charming colonial city of Cuenca, visiting additional nearby towns, famed for their handicrafts and artwork. The trip finishes with a stay at a traditional working hacienda, where you can relax in the peaceful countryside or take part in activities such as horse riding, cycling or tubing in the nearby river, before flying home from nearby Guayaquil.
