Hotel Tsubakino, Yudanaka, Japan

Our rating: First Class

The Tsubakino is a modern ryokan hotel which has quickly become one of our favorites in the region, with its delicious seasonal cuisine regularly receiving glowing feedback from clients. Shinshu beef features heavily on the menu and is widely regarded as some of the best beef in Japan. This is combined with a mixture of Japanese, western and Chinese influenced seasonal side dishes, which are changed every two months to reflect ingredients available locally. Vegetarian options are also available. The ryokan offers both modern convenience (with all rooms having en suite bathrooms) and a traditional Japanese atmosphere. Enjoy a spectacular view of the northern Japanese Alps, Yomase river and local apple farms whilst soaking in the outdoor hot tubs, including a roof-top bath that can be hired for private use.
