Quinta Real

The Quinta Real is the beautifully restored 16th century ex-convent of Santa Catalina, located in the heart of Oaxaca.

It has 91 rooms, all beautifully decorated with authentic beamed ceilings, Oaxacan fabrics and Mexican fabrics, yet has a more boutique hotel feel to it due to a number of greenery-filled courtyards, lovely fountains and a charming, intimate atmosphere. Being an older hotel there are some quirks and odd noises from pipes and air-conditioning units.

There is a good-sized pool and a good restaurant. The Quinta Real is an excellent base from which to explore the town as well as to stay and relax in comfort with a margarita or cold beer. The chapel hosts a weekly Guelaguetza performance of folkloric dance every Friday and the Las Bugambilias bar has Mariachi on Saturdays.
