Lake Moeraki Wilderness Lodge is a charming ecolodge, which will appeal to the active who are keen to spend some time at-one with nature. There are 28 rooms, surrounded as the name suggests by the truly wild, West Coast wilderness. The simpler Rainforest rooms enjoy en suite facilities, and look out into the forest. The more luxurious Riverview rooms are more spacious, and have a spa bath as well as separate shower, and open out onto private decks, overlooking the Moeraki River rapids. Located just downstream from Lake Moeraki, the large comfortable lounge with its open fire has a beautiful river running outside the huge panoramic windows.
A stay at Wilderness Lodge is all about the activities on offer. There are canoes and kayaks, fishing rods and in-house guides that lead both walking and canoe trips up and down the river. There are many beautiful bush walks, including to the stunning Robinson Crusoe beach where you can see the rare Fiordland crested penguins between the months of July and December. You can also visit the hidden glow worm grotto after dinner in the dark!
