Explora Valle Sagrado

Sacred Valley, Peru

As the name suggests, the emphasis of a stay at an Explora property is getting out and about to take advantage of the natural surroundings. A carefully designed selection of activities to explore the Sacred Valley are included in your time here, with options to suit all interests and levels of fitness.

Architecture also plays a big part in Explora hotels, each one commissioned to complement its natural setting, and you’ll see this ethos reflected inside and out in the Explora Valle Sagrado’s wood-dominated design.

All 50 rooms look out expansively onto the surrounding valley (a conscious decision has been made not to include TVs or Wi-Fi in the rooms themselves).

OUR OPINION:

Always aware of its environment, this property has even incorporated pre-Inca terracing into its buildings. We applaud its approach to its surroundings, and it also feels like one of the most remote choices in the Sacred Valley.

Rooms

The Explora Valle Sagrado's 44 standard rooms and six suites all offer views of the corn plantations and mountains surrounding the property. Each room has been designed to allow for quiet and privacy, with TV and Wi-Fi limited to common areas. By making use of natural air currents, and with acute attention to ventilation, the rooms remain cool and comfortable all year round.

Location

Situated on a working corn, quinoa and kiwicha plantation just outside the small village of Urquillos, the Explora Valle Sagrado is ideally located within the Sacred Valley.

Food and drink

An all-inclusive hotel, the Explora Valle Sagrado serves a buffet breakfast and lunch and dinner menus revolving around local cuisine. Canapes are served with drinks in the evening and meals are always matched with wines. The focus on meals is to keep guests feeling light yet ready for their days of exploration.

Families

Families are welcome at the hotel, with activities available for all ages and abilities.

Facilities and activities

The Pumacahua Bath House spa is a lovingly restored 17th-century colonial hacienda on the property's corn terraces. It houses a pool, steam rooms, saunas and lounging areas, and massages are available by appointment (for an extra charge). A small shop sells outdoor equipment and clothing.
